Originally from New York City, I first started to sew at 10 years old. I watched my grandfather - a trained tailor from Copenhagen, Denmark - measure, cut, sew and fit suits and coats for my father and me. I learned to tailor using hand-stitching for the lapels, collars and buttonholes and by 16 years old was sewing professionally. I also taught sewing at the local Singer Sewing store.

After finishing college, I went to Fashion Institute of Technology at night for draping and patternmaking. I continued to sew for my “regular” clients but now included making wedding gowns, headpieces and veils, mothers’ and bridemaid dresses. I did most of the beading by hand. I even attended the wedding to make sure the gown was “fluffed” and ready to go down the aisle.

In 1991, I moved to Charleston, South Carolina, got married, had 2 children, and loved the classic style of dress for children including smocked dresses, bonnets and button-on suits. I started smocking with my son’s christening gown. My daughter’s dresses included piping, pintucks and french lace whether inserted in between a section of pintucks or as a trim on a sleeve or neckline. My son’s overalls had a smocked section on the front and his button-on suits had collars with monogramming or embroidery.

Full-time work and single motherhood put my creativity on the back burner for a while. Now, I am able to enjoy my first passion of sewing while creating fun and unique items for you, friends and family!
